Pithoragarh ,which is one of the most beautiful districts of Uttarakhand contains a deep history in its origin .Many people are unaware about the actual history of it so they believe in any myth, any unreal story told to them by any good storyteller. Thus, our team has made actual research on it and collected data from many known people and historical institutes from there and here goes the real history of Pithoragarh.
Basically, there are two stories that are generally told whenever the history of Pithoragarh is talked about.Pithoragarh (also known as ‘’mini Kashmir’’) was under the reign of a Nepali king named “pal”.he arrived in Pithoragarh in the 13th century and then thereby started ruling in Pithoragarh.the local kings ‘’chands’’ revolted against him and there was a war between pals and chands and this war continued for three generations in which sometimes pal use to rule and some times chand use to rule the place.finally, the last king of ‘’chand’’ dynasty named ‘’Pithora chand’’ defeated the ‘’pals’’ and became the king of Pithoragarh. Thus, the place was then named after the king’s name Pithoragarh as he established his fort there which is now known as ‘’Tehsil” .But soon after the arrival of Britishers in india through east india company the king rule came to an end and finally, Britishers ruled the place till our independence.
As Pithoragarh is a place with people residing there mostly of ‘’Pahari’’ origin but before the independence many people from different places for example-some people came from Rajasthan, some people came from Maharashtra,Nepal, Burma,Bangalore etc.there are also many christen places like ‘’Chandak”, church in ‘’bhat kot’’ ,mission inter collage etc
So far as the history is concerned many good story teller tells that Pithoragarh is named after the king Prithwi Raaj Chauhaan who ruled there for decades, but this story does’nt have much evidences to support for.
